The portrait of Florence Adey, above, was taken in 1903 at Adelaide’s Hammer Studio where she worked. Florence’s career in photography may have begun with her elder brother better known as the photographer Spicer Adey. His studio at 83 Hindley St, Adelaide opened in 1875 when Florence was around 18 years old.
The complete photograph, not seen above, shows Florence with Winifred Hodge, who also worked at the studio and who would marry Harold Cazneau a year or so later. This photograph was taken by Pierce Mott Cazneau who owned Adelaide’s Hammer Studio at that time. Courtesy National Library of Australia.
